I received Joshua and the Very Strong City compliments of The Good Book Company in exchange for my honest review.
Joshua and the Very Strong City is the latest title in the Very Best Bible Stories series by The Good Book Company. It teaches little ones the account of Joshua 6 in which Jericho was delivered to Joshua and the Israelites. This was a means of God fulfilling His covenant to bring His people to the Promised Land.
Joshua and the Very Strong City contains captivating illustrations. It helps children see how this story fits in with the overall story of Scripture and teaches them that God is always with us because of Jesus. This is a fun read for young children and a great way to introduce them to biblical events.
Joshua and the Very Strong City is a delightful and faith-filled retelling of the story of Jericho that captures the attention of young readers while pointing them to God’s faithfulness. The vibrant illustrations and simple yet impactful storytelling make this book a perfect addition to family devotion time or Sunday school lessons.
I especially appreciated how the story emphasizes trusting in God even when things seem impossible—a message that is as relevant for children as it is for adults. It’s engaging, biblically grounded, and easy for little ones to understand, all while keeping Christ at the center of the narrative.
If you’re looking for a fun and meaningful way to teach kids about God’s power and promises, this book is a must-have!
My 8 year old loved this book! Even though it’s geared for younger ones he enjoyed reading it. Love the simple fact of making Bible Stories fun! Vibrant colors, beautiful illustrations, easy to read and a variety of fonts, and a rhythmic pattern this books directs little hearts to the great truth that God is might my and always with us!
Just like the rest of the series, this is an accurate retelling that makes it interactive and entertaining for kids as young as two.
God told Joshua to march around Jericho every day for six days quietly, and then on the seventh day to blow their trumpets and shout! If they followed God’s instructions, then they could trust in Him for victory. Your little ones will have fun learning to trust and obey God as they practice marching like a solider.
“Be strong and brave. I am fighting for you. I will be with you.” God is always with us. This is the key point kids will learn as they “tramp, trampety, tramp, tramp,” and “stamp, stampety, stamp, stamp,” around their room, waiting to shout!
My 5-year-old and I always enjoy reading stories from this series! The illustrations are bold, bright, and colorful. The story is simple while remaining faithful to the Bible, and kids will love being able to move around and shout!
*We were provided with a copy of this book in exchange for our honest review.*
Another great addition to this Very Best Bible Stories series! These books are so fun and engaging with little kids.
Tim stays true to the Word as he retells the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho in a simple way for little ears to understand and grasp. The best part of the way he tells the story is how easy it is for kids to act out the tramping and stamping the same as Joshua and the people did.
There are multiple spots throughout the book that have a catchy rhyme or song or action.
The illustrations, as with the previous ones in the series, are delightful, beautiful and fun. I never realized before, but Jennifer creates "toddler" versions of the characters in the story. I think this is wonderful and makes it more relatable to little kids.
I do wish Thornborough would have included the Scripture reference and possibly a Q&A for parents and kids to have further discussion around the story.
The entire story is very interactive and any child would enjoy reading it over and over again.
I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.
Take your kids on an interactive adventure through the Bible story of Joshua. Both my kids loved this book, even my 1 year old! The fun sound effects make it so fun and you can have them march around with you as well and blow their trumpets. It is written in a way to get young kids interacting with the story as they learn the true story of Joshua and the fall of Jericho. The bright illustrations are eye catching to young ones. This book is part of a series we have been enjoying and teaches that God is always with us.

I am so excited to get more books from this series, because this one is definitely a WIN with my kids! The bright colors, the engaging character design, the interactive story, all lead to it capturing a kids attention from start to finish. As a mom, I love that it's biblically accurate in the story and the message. The story of the battle of Jericho will be one my kids will easily remember and "hide in their hearts" thanks to this engaging book!
My son loved learning about this story. He is three and loved stomping and shouting. He wanted to read it again right when we finished. I also really liked the Jesus tie in at the end.
If you want to get your little one excited about reading time, then you have to read the newest book in Tim Thornborough's The Very Best Bible Stories series.
Your child's excitement and anticipation will shine through as you read and act out the battle of Jericho together in Joshua and the Very Strong City.
Just try to stop yourself from tromping and stomping along with the soldiers as they march around Jericho each day.
Is it time to blow your trumpet? Not yet. Be ready for the moment.
What a delight to read and act out. This book will provide opportunities to create many wonderful memories for years to come.
I really like Jennifer Davison's illustrations. They are so cute, and toddlers will enjoy studying the little faces with their emotions.
The font type in the book naturally encourages the reader to portray the emotions and accompanying actions as they read.
Another engaging activity is the counting as the soldiers tromp and stomp around the city during the battle of Jericho.
This book is recommended for ages 2-4. The book has a hard cover and the pages inside are bright and glossy.
This is one of the best toddler books that I have had the privilege to review. I highly recommend it.
Homeschooling families can get their children off to a great start by introducing Bible stories to their young'uns with this story and the entire set.
Also, Sunday school or children church teachers can use this book for a pre-made, hands-on lesson as they act out the story marching around the classroom.
Excellent job, Mr. Thornborough. Very well done.
Our family loves this series of books. The Bible story is always clear but told in a way that is easy for children to grasp. While the age range is 2-4, I read this with my almost 6-year-old, and she was excited she could read parts of the story as well. There is a lot of repetition, which helps with early readers and drives home key takeaways from the Bible. With colorful illustrations and crafted content, this book would be a great addition to your children's library.
