Description

One in five Christian women use pornography. One in three visitors to a porn site is a woman. Many, many more women read explicit books like Fifty Shades of Grey. Even more than that write their own pornography—not on paper for publication, but in their heads for their own use.

Helen Thorne knows all this because she's done it.

But no one talks about it. Our churches are silent on it. There are very few books about it. It is the unspoken struggle of thousands of Christian women—perhaps you, and probably someone you know.

But no more. In this refreshingly honest, resolutely hope-filled and gospel-soaked book, Helen speaks the unspoken. In doing so, she shows how purity is better and more satisfying than fantasy—and that, whoever you are and whatever your struggles, purity is possible.

Purity Is Possible

Tim Challies, Evangelicals Now, 4 Nov 2014

One strength of Thorne’s work is that she carefully addresses the heart and not merely the outward behavior. When it comes to sexual sin or any other sin that is manifested outwardly, it is so easy to fixate on behavior modification. But she coaches the reader in examining her heart, and learning the deeper sin problem that is causing her to act out lustfully.... continue reading

EQUIP Shorts: Helen Thorne, 'Purity is Possible'

Tara Sing, Equip Book Club, 19 May 2015

This book is a joyful book. Helen reminds us that, even in a broken and sinful world, we can see true beauty in Christ. Helen deals with a topic that can so easily lead to a heavy burden of guilt and shame by constantly pointing us to the one who takes it all away - Jesus Christ. Helen is not writing to make her readers feel guilty.... continue reading

Women Who Lust

Rowina Seidler, Evangelicals Now, 1 Jan 2015

Helen’s style is engaging, vulnerable, sensitive and intelligent. She is open and honest about her own struggles, which makes what she shares all the more relatable and applicable. If I had a friend who opened up with me about their issue of lust, this would be the first book I would recommend. I thank God that a book has been written to challenge unhelpful Christian female stereotypes and offer hope to all the women fighting sexual sin in lonely silence.
I pray that this book will get into many women’s hands, challenge our churches in how they speak about lust and help set many women free.... continue reading

“Excellent, practical and much needed book”

This is an excellent book. It starts with the basics of the idols we worship and how that then translates into our behaviours, really helping to delve into the depths of sin in our hearts. She uses scripture helpfully in a very practical applicational way. It is an easy read (in a literal sense although is incredibly challenging in a spiritual sense). I would recommend this for all women whether you think you have a problem in this area of your life or not, as well as for those who are mentoring women who are really struggling in this area. Whilst, it is aimed at women I think it might be useful as a male pastor to read to understand where women are coming from. One of her points is that it is assumed that all women think a certain way and that that is not true. She encompasses all sexual sin without any assumptions and so ensures that as a Christian reader we recognise that we are more alike than different and stand together on level ground at the foot of the cross. I found this humbling and challenging and am very grateful to God for His equipping of Helen to write this book.
