Different but Equal
Ideal for ages 3-6, this children’s board book focuses on the fact that God created us different but equal. It is a message that is important to teach at a very young age, and Newbell makes it clear that we are all of value and worth.
God’s Good Wisdom
The illustrations by Catalina Echeverri are outstanding. Vibrant and fun, capturing the diversity of mankind. I most appreciated the fact that the book tells that through Jesus we are able to love God and love others. Help your children see God’s good wisdom in our differences!
I received a media copy of God’s Very Good Idea Board Book and this is my honest review.
This book is amazing! It is simple yet does a really good job of laying the foundation for why diversity in our lives and relationships matter! It is based in truth and is simple. It doesn’t just talk about diversity in how we look but also in what we enjoy doing and who we are as people!
The illustrations are AMAZING! They feature all sorts of different people of different colors and abilities doing many different activities.
Especially living in Houston, the most diverse city in the US, it is so important to lay this truth based foundation early for my children. Highly recommend.

God's Very Good Idea is a sturdy board book for toddlers and preschoolers. I highly recommend this book. The illustrations are colorful and bright. All of the different faces on the pages will keep even young children engaged. The message of the story is that God created everyone differently, yet we are to love each other and to love God.
A big thank you to The Good Book company for this complimentary product. This is my honest review.
I love Tales That Tell The Truth and I love God’s Very Good Idea and I love the decision to adapt it into a sturdy board book version. When God’s Very Good Idea was published a couple of years ago, it was my kid’s favorite. Because it was his favorite, it quickly showed signs of wear and tear…and eventually just tear. This board book adaptation is smaller, simpler, and geared toward younger children. Simpler doesn’t mean simplistic. All the truth of the original book comes through, though without all the same artistry and poetic feel. It’s more utilitarian, but still engaging.
While the original book was something I had to read to my young kids, my oldest is now an early reader and this version of God’s Very Good Idea is simple enough for him to read through himself with some support. So he can get the full story from the original book when I read it with him, then the simplified core of the story when he wants to read it through himself. By creating different ways of engaging the same message, The Good Book Company is creating an environment where kids can learn the message of their books through different avenues.
Catalina Echeverri’s illustrations are just as delightful here as in the original. Being more simplified, I found my kids noticing details in the book they hadn’t in the original version. Tales That Tell the Truth is one of my favorite children’s book series. I love to see the publisher expanding the audience by creating various editions that fit different ages and contexts.
This is one of my favourite books from the series of children's books the Good Book Company produces and the board book version is a really lovely, shorter and simpler version for toddlers. It shows them that they are loved by God, whoever they are, and that we are all delightfully different. A great gift for a toddler!
This board book adaptation of "God's Very Good Idea" introduces babies and toddlers to the idea that "God made everyone with value and worth," and that we are all different. Unlike the original book, this one does not talk about racial differences specifically, but the illustrations portray people with a variety of skin tones and hair types. The book celebrates the goodness of God's creativity, pointing out that we are all loved and all different, and can enjoy loving God and loving each other.
The adapted text from Trillia Newbell is very simple, with just one or two short sentences on each page. The illustrations from Catalina Echeverri are vibrant, colorful, and full of joy. Although this book is very different from the original, it works together as a coherent, seamless whole, without ever seeming like a patched-up, altered version of the original. It is truly a different book for a different audience, while still sharing the same theme and some of the same illustrations.
"God's Very Good Idea Board Book: God Made Us Delightfully Different" introduces the concept of diversity to babies and toddlers in a brief, age-appropriate way. Some adult readers may be disappointed that the book doesn't directly address race or different skin colors, but this book is a great way for parents to lay the foundation for future conversations. It presents diversity in a joyful, positive light, emphasizing God's creativity and love in designing each of us.

I had the privilege of reading the full version of this book and we enjoyed it. This is the board book version.
The concept of the book is exactly the same as the full version: detailing the diversity of how God made us, celebrating that diversity, and praising God for that diversity.
The words are few and simple on each page but still get to the core of the message so toddlers can understand the differences of people and the beauty of those differences.
I would say the illustrations are the best part of the book. They are bright, engaging, detailed, and unique. As an adult, I even spent extra time in-between pages exploring the illustrations.
Although the book does not preach the Gospel, it does teach loving Jesus and loving others.
