“Wonderful Family Devotional”

This is a brand new devotional that teaches kids ages 5-11 about prayer! It's based on the storybook by Laura Wifler, but it's not necessary to own the storybook in order to enjoy this devotional. Each day the devotional begins with a brief prayer and then a Bible passage and questions to help your child dive deeper into that passage. There are also bonus questions and activities as well as prayer prompts at the end of each devotional! I love how the different types of prayers are focused on: prayers of praise, of repentance, asking for help. The gospel is woven throughout this devotional, starting with the garden on day 1 and ending with the topic of "God's Nearness" on day 15. This is a great resource for the whole family to grow deeper in their prayer lives!

“Loving this series!”

I’m super excited about this book because our family is a huge fan of the Tales That Tell the Truth series. The family Bible devotional is a great companion to the storybook. You can read the storybook first and then spend time digging into the topic of prayer for 15 days, or you could do the devotional first and then the storybook. Or both at the same time. There’s really no wrong way to use them together.

I really appreciate that this devotional can be used with younger kids because I feel like solid Biblical devotionals for this age is really lacking.

Each day contains:
Opening prayer
Starter questions
Scripture
Questions to explore what the verses were about
Extra questions for personal reflection and application
Closing prayer prompts

There are also a few additional activity pages throughout the book.

Each day can be done in 15 minutes or less. It would be a great bedtime or mealtime devotional. If you’re child is also able to independently read and write, it would be a great quiet time devotional for them to work through on their own. I’d say about age 8 and older. There is space on each page for writing the answers, or you can also use the book and discuss with your child if you don’t want to write in it.

I appreciate that the full Scripture is included each day. You can also have your child(ren) look up the passage in their own Bibles if you want. The questions also give hints to which verse to find the answer for younger kids who may need a little extra help. I also like the prayer prompts at the end of each day. It’s not just a simple read the following prayer, but gives prompts to come up with your own prayer. What a wonderful way to help cultivate a good prayer life for youngsters!

I’m hoping they come out with even more devotionals that match up with the Tales That Tell the Truth storybooks because this is a gem! And it fills the void of quality devotionals for this age range.

“Great Addition for Families”

We love this series of Good Book Company kids books, and the devotionals now being created alongside are superb for encouraging family discussions about faith and embedding what the children are learning in their lives. Each daily devotion includes:
- An opening prayer
- A question to get you thinking about the topic
- A Bible passage to read together, printed in the book
- Some short questions about what you read
- An explanation to read together
- Some questions to apply the passage
- A prayer or idea for a prayer activity
- Some extra questions or activities for going a bit further, which would be best for older children or parents

These are great ideas for supporting parents and families who want to think about faith together, and this particular book on prayer is a really helpful introduction. For those younger (e.g. 4-5), there would need to be a bit more parental support as some of the language might be a bit tricky.

“Delightful and theologically rich”

This delightful devotional brings focus on the power, value and joy found in prayer, any time, any place. 🙏

I really valued that it has the Bible passage printed within and it doesn’t shy away from long, complicated passages, exposing young people to the word in its entirety. Unpacking it in a really uncomplicated way. 🙌

The questions are clear and specific, with verse references to help your children come to the answer and there are optional extra questions and activities throughout. We have found it so helpful for our longer summer devotional times and my eldest, age 6, has found it really engaging. He has loved writing the answers in. See slide two for one of his answers that made my heart burst a little bit. I highly recommend! 😍

Note - You don’t have to have the picture book in order to use this (we don’t own it).

Thank you for providing this copy in exchange for my honest review! ♥️

This 15 day Devotional is based on the Storybook by Laura Wifler.
Ideal for kids aged 5-11, each devotion takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

In each of the 15 daily devotions, you can expect to find this outline:

- Opening Prayer

- Starter Question

- Bible Reference

- Passage Questions

I love how this devotional helps guide your children through prayer, and reflecting on the promises that God gave us. The prayer points are helpful in directing your family on where to start if you are new to your prayer journey, or just needing some inspiration.

A fun feature in this devotional is the occasional extra activities included for kids; such as colouring pages and word searches.

We found this to be a simple, yet engaging devotional full of scripture.
It can be used with or without the accompanying resources (storybook, activity book, board book).
This fun resource is enjoyable when completed together as a family!

“A great family devotional on prayer and the overarching message of the gospel.”

The Family Bible Devotional: Any Time, Any Place, Any Prayer is based on the storybook by Laura Wifler. It teaches children all about prayer and how we can talk with God.

This little devotional is geared for ages 5-11 and has coloring pages, activities, puzzles and questions to answer. Each devotional brings opportunity to discuss prayer together as a family. Each devotional also contains a passage of Scripture to read and discuss. The gospel is central and flows through this family devotional starting out with the story in the garden of Eden and going through different stories from the Bible that connect with prayer and the gospel. I look forward to doing this with my children when they are older. It is great for discussion and showing an overview of the gospel.

Thank you to @thegoodbookcompanyusa for a copy of this book for my honest review!

“Great for the whole family!”

Absolutely loved the idea of a devotional to further discussions with my kids presented in Laura Wifler's original book! With six kids spanning 10 years, I loved the concept of this book in providing discussion questions and activities, plus additional "expansion" questions for the older kids. Appreciated the whole scope of these lessons, from Genesis to Revelation, and taking a closer look at the example of Jesus in prayer. We will be using this in our family this upcoming year, and would highly recommend!

“Broad Focus on Redemptive History - Too Advanced for Some Young Kids”

3.5 stars, rounded up for the right audience.

This family devotional by Katy Morgan is inspired by the “Any Time, Any Place, Any Prayer” storybook by Laura Wifler, and the readings go through fifteen different Bible passages about prayer. Each devotion features an opening prayer, a discussion prompt, a Bible passage and discussion questions about it, and a prompt for a closing prayer. There are also optional, more complex questions for older children. The book includes illustrations from Catalina Echeverri and occasional activities in her art style, such as coloring pages, a maze, and a wordsearch.

This devotional covers a significant amount of biblical teaching about prayer. Different days cover different types of prayer, such as calling out to God for help or in repentance, and the book also covers the story of Jesus and the Lord's Prayer. I appreciate the book's breadth, and I think it's great that Morgan covered the whole arc of redemptive history, from creation to the new creation. However, the downside of this is that the book presumes a lot of prior knowledge and exposure to Bible stories. The very basic writing and simple concepts in the devotional readings feel mismatched with some of the more complex Bible passages. This feels too young for older kids who could better engage with the Scriptural content, and is too advanced for many younger kids who would connect with the devotional readings.

I would recommend this devotional to families with young kids who are very well-versed in Bible stories and have already learned a lot about God. The focus on teaching kids about prayer is helpful, but this will be most successful if children are already very well-informed about biblical history. To be more successful for more audiences, this book would need to share more context for several of the passages, or would need to age-up the devotional material for older children.

Note: I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

“wonderful addition to the book!”

We have had the privilege of being able to read the actual books of this devotional and they are wonderful. So, needless to say, we were excited for this devotional as an added bonus to the book.

Although the devotional is not written by the same author as the books it is based on, Laura Wifler does include a note of encouragement in the devotional.

The devotional's format covers fifteen days of discovering God's design for prayer. Each day is formatted similarly with the following:

- Opening Prayer

- Starter Question

- Bible Reference

- Passage Questions

- Explanation

- Reflection Questions

- Prayer

Morgan includes some additional extras throughout the book as well. These include sections aimed at older children, simple reflection ideas, and fun puzzles/activities.

This devotional is simple yet engaging, deep yet understandable. My 11 year old was maybe a bit too old for the simplicity of it but still was able to engage thoughtfully.

I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.
