“Great option for young readers!”

Laferton does a wonderful job of retelling the Easter account in a simple yet wholistic way for young readers to understand.

Even though this is a small, short book, the author structures it with eight chapters:
- The King on the Donkey
- Jesus at the Temple
- A New Special Meal
- Praying in the Garden
- The King and the Thief
- Jesus is Alive!
- The Strange Stranger
- Thomas Changes His Mind

Each chapter begins by referencing Scripture passages for that particular section of the Easter account. Also included in a very important section on how God keeps His promises. Each promise is categorized with a special icon and is notated throughout the book when the promise is mentioned.

The retelling is clearly biblically accurate and shares the entire Gospel. From Palm Sunday all the way through the Resurrection, kids will have the opportunity to capture a glimpse of Jesus' most important sacrifice for us.

of course, the illustrations are fabulous. This is a fun, engaging little book for young readers to help them grasp and enjoy the Easter account.

I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.

“Great Easter resource for kids!”

This is a great little resource for kids as you lead up to Easter. If you don't have the larger God's Big Promises: Bible Storybook (we don't), this is a great way to be able to read the Easter stories that are included in that book.

I do appreciate that this is just 8 stories so it feels very doable to read it with kids in the week or weeks leading up to Easter.

It is a small paperback book which is a positive for some and negative for others.

The illustrations are very colorful and engaging and I love the price point for reaching any family who wants to use a discipleship resource like this.

I received a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

“Lovely Giveaway Book”

We bought our God’s Big Promises Bible storybook a while ago, and we love it! It’s so clearly gospel-centred, tracking threads through the scriptures, and very readable with small children. This short book is a collection of extracts from that Bible, and makes a great giveaway book for our Easter outreach this year like our Good Friday family activities. In a short book, we have both the story of the first Easter, and a great explanation of what those events change for us today!

“Packs a Punch!”

Can be read as a whole story all together, or in sections, this vibrant little book packs a punch in telling the Easter story in a gospel centered way that even toddlers can grasp. A definite must for our Easter reading basket!

“Clear, simple Easter story for little hearts.”

A simple, faithful retelling of Easter for young children. It walks through the events from Palm Sunday to the resurrection, keeping the focus on God’s big promises. The illustrations are bright, and the storytelling is clear—good for little ones who are just beginning to grasp the wonder of Easter.

“Great for Kids”

Yet another great biblical retelling for kids that I really enjoyed. This book walks you through the Easter story, even including stories from after he was risen. It’s a great book for younger kids, with wonderful pictures too.

I loved that it was split into chapters, and it pointed to the actual Bible passages it was references. Great for reading through them yourself, or even with your kiddo(s).

I also appreciated that it contained a key, with pictures that showed how God kept his promises. It was a clever idea, and a great reference for littles.

Overall, it was a thorough retelling fit for kids. I am definitely excited to read through this one with my own kids this Lenton season. It’s a great book to help spark discussions about the season, and points back to the Bible for more context and discussion.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, received from The Good Book Company. However, all thoughts and views reflected are strictly my own opinions.

“Big truths for little ones!”

God’s Big Promises: The Story of Easter by Carl Laferton with illustrations by Jennifer Davison is a faithful Biblical retelling that takes you from Palm Sunday to Resurrection Day in eight short chapters.

The eight stories are taken directly from God’s Big Promises: Bible Storybook. If you have the Bible Storybook it is chapters 73-80. There is no need to own both, unless you like having the Easter story separate. It is kind of nice to have the smaller book just for Easter, and it can be used as a devotional for the week leading up to Resurrection Day! It would also make a great gift for Easter baskets.

The goal of the God’s Big Promises collection is to show how God keeps all of His amazing promises. There is a key at the beginning of the book with icons that you can find throughout the book to see how God keeps His promise: 1) About a King 2) To rescue 3) About His people 4) That He will bring joy 5) About a forever land to live in. Jesus is the fulfillment of these promises, and so, you will find these icons on many of the pages, sometimes all five!

This book is filled with vibrant and eye-catching illustrations. The angels and the fire look like they are glowing and popping right off the page! These beautiful illustrations paired with the easy-to-read text makes it perfect for toddlers and young children. They will enjoy seeing God’s promises unfold in a way they can comprehend; after all, “God loves to hear big truths coming out of little mouths.” And by the end, kids will be happy to exclaim to Jesus: “You are my King and my God!”

“Good for Some”

This book has many Bible stories that are great to read leading up to Easter. However, if someone already has God's Big Promises Storybook, this would be redundant. Only buy this book of you do not have the other.

“A Clear and Engaging Retelling of the Gospel”

The Story of Easter by Carl Laferton is a beautifully written and illustrated book that provides a clear and faithful retelling of the gospel message for children. It walks readers through the events of Jesus’ death and resurrection with a focus on why these moments matter for all of us.

As a parent, I deeply value how this book combines simple yet profound language with vibrant illustrations, making the story accessible to younger children without losing its depth. Laferton does an excellent job of weaving together the narrative of Easter with the broader story of redemption, helping kids see Jesus’ death and resurrection as the centerpiece of God’s plan for salvation.

What stood out to me is how the book doesn’t just tell the Easter story—it invites kids to respond. It helps children understand that Jesus’ sacrifice wasn’t just a historical event but something personal and life-changing.

This book is perfect for family devotions, homeschool Bible lessons, or gifting during the Easter season. If you’re looking for a way to share the good news of Easter with children in a way that’s faithful to Scripture and engaging for their hearts, The Story of Easter is an excellent choice. It’s a resource I’m excited to read with my family year after year!
